Payrix celebrates Women’s History Month with interview series and fundraiser

Women’s History Month is observed in March in the US, UK and Australia and embraces the positive contributions women all over the world have made and continue to make throughout history. At Payrix, we believe that inclusivity breeds creativity, innovation and opportunity and we want to continuously challenge ourselves to reflect the world we want to see in the communities where we live and work.

Our team members found meaningful ways to honor women inside and outside of Payrix all month long. In this blog, we will recap some of the ways we celebrated, learned and gave back during Women’s History Month.

Supporting women around the world

International Women’s Day is one of the most important days to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness about women’s equality and fundraise for female-focused charities. Globally dispersed Payrix team members wore purple for IWD to show our support and represent justice, dignity, equality and visionary thinking. Women’s History Month was also an opportunity for us to share perspectives of bold and brave women in history and to amplify more female voices. We encouraged our team members to check out these TedX talks led by inspiring ladies around the world:

Elevating more female voices

Payrix is full of talented, inspiring women and we honored some of them with our Women’s History Month Interview Series where we talked with five members of our globally dispersed team about their inspiration, motivation and advice to women joining the fintech industry.

  • Listening to understand rather than listening to respond is crucial. Rachel Henin, Director of Implementations, shared how lessons learned from her upbringing have shaped her confidence, independence, empathy and motivation.
  • Sales Support Specialist, Ashlea Brunson encouraged women to make space for themselves and share their valuable skills and knowledge because there is a seat at the table for you in fintech.
  • Although the product and engineering department are often male-heavy fields, Product Owner, Mehvish Ahmed is anticipating that changing with more women joining those roles and seeing equal opportunities and ratios.
  • Credit Manager, Suyapa Trout, shared that the most influential woman she knows is none other than Payrix Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, Billi Jo Wright.
  • Unconscious biases are alive and well. Bridget Oakes, Client Success Specialist, encourages organizations to listen, be aware of them and speak up if you hear or see them to better support women and create an inclusive work environment.

Closing the gender gap in technology

Girls Who Code is on a mission to create the world’s largest pipeline of future female engineers. Payrix rallied for the second year in a row to raise money for the nonprofit to close the gender gap in technology and inspire, educate and equip girls with the skills to become change agents in our industry. We are proud to share that we surpassed our fundraising goal with over $2,800 raised!

We look forward to continuing our annual fundraiser for Girls Who Code next year because we want to see more women step into engineering roles in fintech. We will continue to use what we’ve learned this month to create a diverse and inclusive workplace that supports women inside and outside of Payrix.
